Our Mission

Hope Through Science

Psychiatry and behavioral medicine stand at the crossroads of human complexity, where the biological, psychological, social, and emotional dimensions of health converge. What makes this field so deeply compelling is its vast potential to transform lives. Unlike many other disciplines, psychiatry touches every part of the human experience, from the most intricate neural circuits to the broadest societal challenges.

Hope fuels resilience and our ability to bounce back from adversities through harmonic dynamic engagement between our biology and genomics on one hand, and our environment and experiences on the other.

Our laboratory is dedicated to breaking new ground by shattering stigmas, advancing the frontiers of neuroscience, and delivering person-centered care that is as innovative as it is compassionate. We pursue discovery through world-class research infrastructure and collaborative partnerships, aiming to unravel the mysteries of the human mind and translate our findings into therapeutics that directly improve the lives of individuals and communities.

The modern-day boundaries of our field span basic science and molecular biology, mitochondriopathies, electrophysiology, neuromodulation and neuroscience, genomics, to human behavior, emotions, and humanitarian sciences.

Research Focus Area

Pioneering approaches to understanding and treating neuropsychiatric disorders.

Investigating novel brain stimulation therapies including Low Amplitude Seizure Therapy (LAP-ST), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Magnetic Seizure Therapy (MST), and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) to reduce cognitive side effects while maintaining therapeutic efficacy.

Utilizing genomic and epigenetic tools to understand disease mechanisms, predict treatment response, and develop personalized therapeutic approaches for treatment-resistant conditions.

Comprehensive research on depression, bipolar disorder, and treatment-resistant mood conditions, with focus on identifying diagnostic biomarkers and optimizing therapeutic interventions.

Developing and validating diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers to predict treatment response, identify at-risk populations, and guide personalized treatment selection.

Investigating the rapid anti-suicidal effects of novel interventions and identifying biological and clinical markers to improve risk assessment and prevention strategies.

Exploring mechanisms of psychological resilience and developing interventions to boost adaptive responses to stress and adversity.
